Counterfeit drugs are a $32 billion-a-year headache for the pharmaceutical industry, according to a World Health Organization study. It’s getting worse and could reach $75 billion a year by 2010, according to one industry estimate.

Still, there is a long way to go. “Let’s be practical here,” he said. “It won’t get much better until China has its own intellectual property to protect.”
